On a walk around the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. one afternoon, I observed how historical monumental sculptures had a distinct visual language even among works that had been completed over an extended period of time. I then began comparing that to the language of the jazz iconography I often worked with in my job as a music librarian, and the idea of creating these mash-ups was born.
